Program Objectives
1. Children and families who are underserved have access to programs in the community that address medical, mental health, and other areas of concern to ensure healthy development
2. Families living in rural poverty are strengthened by:
- engaging in parenting classes
- developing an awareness of and access to community resources
- having their basic human needs met
- receiving ongoing mentoring from female volunteers
3. Senior adult volunteers demonstrate an increased sense of well being and social connection
Program Outcomes
1. In 2010, 100% of participating children had access to additional services, if needed, to promote healthy child development in the areas of problem solving, language, motor skills, and social-emotional skills. (Impacting future school success and preventing additional health/behavioral issues that could impede learning) Outcome measures:
- Ages and Stages Questionnaire and ASQ: SE was used as pre/mid/post assessment (week one, month six, and month twelve) to determine if referrals for services need to be made
2. In 2010, family strengthening occurred for at least 80% of the families. (Preventing child abuse and neglect and promoting access to social services and educational opportunities)
- 80% of participants demonstrated and identified positive parenting techniques as learned in The Incredible Years classes by the end of month six (as indicated on the Parent Practices Interview Form and during parent-child coaching sessions).
- By month three, 100% of participants developed an awareness of community services that can support the families' individual needs and priorities (as indicated in changes on the “community services” section on The Incredible Years demographics form.)
