Get Involved

At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person.
Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.
-Albert Schweitzer

Each of us has experienced a life changing moment—a time when someone touched our lives. It may not have been an opportunity that would be considered heroic or miraculous—the person may have offered us words of advice or been there during a challenging time or recognized something special that no one else saw. Over time, that spark grew into a flame and changed us into being the people we are today.

That’s what LightShare is about—sharing our light to spark life changing moments for others. Regardless of our age, each of us has something to offer to the community around us. When we share our gifts, talents and resources, we can make a positive impact on issues that challenge our society. We can build community simply by touching the life of one child, one parent, or one senior adult.

Recently, I had the joy of attending a fifth grade graduation for some of our Lead and Learn students. After it was over, one of the young men approached me and gave me a big hug. He looked into my eyes and said, “I remember when Ms. Darla came to read with me. Now, I’m making good grades and going to middle school!” I smiled and reflected on how it had been three years since Ms. Darla had mentored that child and the lasting impact she had made in reading with him just one afternoon a week.

Your involvement can make a difference! We depend on volunteers and donors like you to invest in our programming. Life changing moments don’t necessarily happen in the course of big events; rather, they occur in the weekly parenting classes, in the after school mentoring sessions, or during the monthly food/clothing distribution at our pantry. LightShare has many opportunities for investment, whether it be through volunteering or financial support. Please share your light—connect young and old, build community.
