Connecting Generations

Imagine a group of children and senior adults learning from each other's life stories. They appear to have little in common culturally or socially, given their age differences. One afternoon a month, however, these intergenerational strangers become friends as they play games, sing songs, and talk together. Connecting young and old is the root of LightShare and what we do in the communities we serve. Our mission is to bring together young and old through educational programming to build community.

"I like coming to visit the senior adults," reports one middle school child. "They make me feel so good, and I like to make them smile."

"I can't wait for them to get here," says one senior resident. "It's the highlight of my week!"

LightShare strives to develop intergenerational programming that is built on the talents and resources of the communities' residents. We consider the gifts that everyone has to offer then we create programs that encourage everyone involved to be lifetime learners, regardless of age.
